The river, hour by hour
Today · 06:31 GMT+2All day River tracking
Historical river records often use daily averages, which can hide the rises and falls during rain. Sensors measure more frequently, and some archives also provide hourly history. At RiverData, we are testing a permanent archive of more granular readings: every 10 minutes on the Czech side and every 30 minutes on the German Elbe, alongside rain and Vltava reservoir releases.

Live river tracking
Nine reservoirs. One clock.
Watch saved levels and releases across the Vltava, using the same profile as the live river.
No archived rain at this time Hourly model precipitation, shown over each reservoir
Loading saved cascade observations...
Live shows the current local time and the latest saved readings, with each reservoir's actual observation time. Rain shows the latest completed model hour; it is not an instantaneous rain sensor. Missing measurements stay empty; starred pool elevations are published reference geometry. Band thickness also follows archived dam releases. The animation does not simulate water travel time. Rain is the preceding hour's model accumulation at each reservoir, using ERA5 for older dates and provisional weather models for recent days.

Loading saved rain and cascade history. Older Czech dates can take a moment to recover from CHMI.

What the dams let through
Vltava cascade operations
Operator inflow, outflow, water level and storage are saved every 10 minutes at their published observation times. Recent release and level tables recover published readings between collections. A zero release is preserved as zero.

Older release history is limited to readings we saved or the operator still publishes. The national monthly reservoir archive cannot reconstruct ten-minute releases. Cascade operations affect downstream flow; local rain alone does not explain a river rise. Operator source
